South African club Cape Town Spurs have confirmed the exit of assistant coach Vasili Manousakis amid reports he is set to join the Kenya national team Harambee Stars.

A statement from the club confirmed: “Cape Town Spurs FC and assistant coach Vasili Manousakis have decided to part ways. Manousakis joined Cape Town Spurs in October 2023 and contributed to the club’s DStv Premiership (now Betway Premiership) campaign, as well as their current Motsepe Foundation Championship season.

“The seasoned coach started his career in the youth system of Ajax Cape Town alongside Duncan Crowie, and also worked for the likes of Cape Town City FC, AmaZulu and Richards Bay FC. The club thanks Vasili Manousakis for his massive contribution, and wishes him much success on his new journey.”

Unconfirmed reports indicate Manousakis is among the coaches, who have been approved by Benni McCarthy, who is set to be unveiled as Kenya coach, to replace Turkish Engin Firat on a two-year permanent deal, on Monday.

McCarthy is considering adding former South African goalkeeper Joseph Moeneeb and Manousakis to his coaching staff, with Moeneeb likely to serve as the goalkeeper trainer and Manousakis as the assistant coach.

The former Bafana Bafana striker, who managed 79 appearances for South Africa national team and scored 31 goals, will be in charge when Kenya face the Gambia in their 2026 World Cup qualifying away fixture on March 17th, and against Gabon at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi.
