Kenya's veteran coach Robert Matano has revealed his desire to achieve great things with Tanzanian Mainland Premier League side Fountain Gate FC.

The 60-year-old Matano, was unveiled as the coach of the Singida-based club after ditching Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League outfit Sofapaka.

He was paraded as a replacement for former coach Mohamed Muya, who was dismissed on December 29 last year after a humiliating 5-0 defeat against defending champions Young Africans (Yanga SC) in the Premier League.

Speaking for the first time, Matano, who is nicknamed 'the Special One', and one of the most decorated coaches in the history of the Kenyan Premier League with a record four league titles, expressed gratitude and determination, acknowledging the competitive nature of the Tanzanian league.

“This league has its challenges, but with hard work and discipline, I believe we can achieve great things,” said Matano as quoted by the Guardian.

“When you mention some of the best leagues, you cannot fail to mention the Tanzanian league. I am happy with the opportunity I have gotten here because it is an honour for me.”

Matano further confirmed the club’s top hierarchy had promised to support him in his quest to turn their fortunes around. “I have had positive discussions with my leaders, so let's wait and see what will happen this season."

Matano arrives at a Singida side, who are currently sitting sixth on the league table with 20 points from 16 matches.
