Football Kenya Federation (FKF) Premier League outfit Sofapaka FC coach Robert Matano has joined Tanzanian Mainland Premier League club Fountain Gate FC.
A statement from Sofapaka confirmed the exit of Matano: “We wish to notify you that coach Robert Matano has left the club, we are grateful for his services and wish him all the best in his new office.”
Sofapaka further confirmed assistant coach Ezekiel Akwana as the replacement for Matano. “In the meantime, assistant coach Ezekiel Akwana takes over the position as head coach.”
Matano, who is one of the most successful Kenyan coaches with four Kenyan Premier League titles to his name, leaves Batoto ba Mungu a few months after joining them from Tusker.
This year, Matano helped revive a very mediocre Sofapaka side who barely escaped relegation last season. After failing to win any of their first five matches, Sofapaka have picked points from nine of their last 10 matches, winning five, and losing only once during that period.
Batoto Ba Mungu are currently one of the most inform teams in the league, having picked 11 out of 15 available points from their last five matches. Fountain Gate are currently sitting sixth on the league table with 20 points from 16 matches.
They have managed six wins, two draws and suffered eight defeats.
