Former Harambee Stars captain Victor Wanyama is now a Scottish second tier side Dunfermline Athletic player, reuniting with his former boss Celtics boss Neil Lennon until the end of the season.

A statement from the club confirmed the arrival of the former Tottenham Hotspur player subject to international clearance: “DAFC are delighted to announce the signing of Kenyan international, Victor Wanyama, on a deal until the end of the season, subject to international clearance.

“The 33-year-old defensive midfielder has had a decorated career, playing for clubs such as Celtic, Southampton, Tottenham Hotspur and most recently, CF Montreal. Wanyama made 64 appearances for Kenya, captaining the country at the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, before retiring from international football in 2021.”

The statement concluded: “Following a spell at the Saints, he joined Tottenham Hotspur, reuniting with his former manager, Mauricio Pochettino. Victor was part of the squad that made the Champions League final for Spurs back in 2019.

“Victor joins the Pars after leaving Montreal in January. Welcome to the Pars Victor!”

Wanyama became the first ever Kenyan player to score in the UEFA Champions League when he scored the first goal in Celtic's 2–1 win over Barcelona on November 7, 2012. On July 11, 2013, Wanyama moved to Premier League club Southampton for £12.5 million, making him the most expensive player sold by a Scottish club at the time, surpassing the £9.5 million Russian club Spartak Moscow paid for Aiden McGeady in 2010.

In summer 2016 he moved to Southampton's Premier League rivals Tottenham Hotspur where he stayed until March 2020, when he signed with Major League Soccer club Montreal Impact. In March 2025 Wanyama returned to Scotland to play for Dunfermline Athletic under his former Celtic manager Neil Lennon.

Wanyama has earned 64 caps for the Kenyan national team since making his international debut in May 2007 at age 15. He joins a Dunfermline side, who are currently sitting ninth in the Scottish Championship with 27 points from 29 matches.

They have won seven matches, drawn six and suffered 16 defeats. Dunfermline play at East End Park, are nicknamed The Pars and are managed by former Celtic and Northern Ireland Midfielder Neil Lennon.

The club have played at East End Park since their formation in 1885; however, the pitch they initially played at – also known as East End Park – was slightly west of the present stadium.
