Violah Nambi excited to make history after joining Finnish club Åland United

Uganda Women’s national team striker Violah Nambi Ssebunya has officially joined Finnish top-flight side Åland United, marking another step in her impressive international career.


Nambi, a free agent after parting ways with Italian side Napoli just five days ago expressed her enthusiasm for the move saying:


“I’m overjoyed to join Åland United and be part of this journey. I’m looking forward to helping the team achieve its goals and making history together. This is my first time playing in Finland and I couldn’t be more eager to get started. See you soon!”


The Finnish club confirmed the signing on their official platforms, highlighting Nambi’s international experience and versatility. Head coach Daniel Norrmén praised the 28-year-old forward’s attributes:


“Violah is incredibly fast, excellent in depth, likes to challenge opponents, and works extremely hard for the team. Her experience playing in Damallsvenskan and Serie A is a testament to her exceptional talent, and we’re thrilled to have her on board.”


Nambi’s career includes stints with Swedish clubs Växjö DFF and IFK Kalmar, Austria’s Dornbirn Ladies and Italian sides CF Pomigliano and Napoli. Åland United, based in Mariehamn and competing in Finland’s top-tier league host their home games at the Wiklöf Holding Arena which seats 4,000 fans.
