Vipers SC co-head coach John ‘Ayala’ Luyinda has confirmed that club captain Milton Karisa will be sidelined for two months due to a partial tear of the quadriceps femoris muscle.
This injury, sustained during Vipers' 1-0 win over Maroons FC at Kitende on Monday, has effectively ruled him out of the 2024 African Nations Championship (CHAN) finals scheduled for February 1–28.
Karisa, who had been named in Uganda Cranes head coach Paul Put’s 36-man provisional squad, will now miss the tournament alongside Denis Omedi and Hakim Kiwanuka, who are likely to be excluded following their moves to APR FC.
Speaking ahead of Vipers' Stanbic Uganda Cup round of 64 match against Tepa FC in Ngora on Friday, January 10, Ayala stated: "Skipper Milton Karisa will be out for two months after suffering a muscle issue in our last league game against Maroons FC."
The development is a huge blow for Vipers and Uganda Cranes given Karisa’s huge experience that has seen him feature in two CHAN editions that is 2018 in Morocco and Algeria in 2023.
