Vipers SC reclaimed the top spot in the StarTimes Uganda Premier League with a 2-1 victory over bottom-placed Soltilo Bright Stars at Kavumba Recreation Ground on Saturday.

On the same day, Express FC edged KCCA FC 1-0 under the floodlights at the MTN Omondi Stadium in Lugogo. Goals from Gusto Mulongo and Allan Okello sealed Vipers’ seventh win of the season, taking them to 24 points from 11 matches — one point clear of second-placed NEC, who drew 1-1 with URA FC on Thursday.

Soltilo Bright Stars remain rooted to the bottom of the table with just six points. Mulongo gave Vipers the lead in the 16th minute, pouncing on a defensive lapse from a Moses Waiswa corner.

Four minutes later, Allan Okello continued his rich vein of form, scoring his seventh goal of the campaign from a Karim Watambala cut-back. Soltilo Bright Stars pulled one back on the half-hour mark through Warren Buule who capitalized on Vipers' failure to clear a free-kick.

However, the Venoms defended resolutely to secure all three points. Later in the evening, Express FC claimed a crucial 1-0 win over KCCA FC courtesy of old boy Emmanuel Wasswa’s 30th-minute strike.

The goal resulted from a swift counterattack with Richard Basangwa providing the decisive assist. The victory saw Express climb to fourth on the table tied on 19 points with KCCA but with a better goal difference. Both teams have played 11 matches. Matchday 12 action is set to begin on Wednesday, December 11, 2024.
