The Djibouti Football Federation (FDF) held their elective general assembly earlier today as Souleiman Hassan Waberi got reelected unopposed to lead for a fourth term as FDF president.
Waberi resigned from his post back in March 2024 and he was the only candidate for the presidency earlier today. He was elected unopposed to continue from his third term.
Waberi, a CAF vice president, has huge influence in Djiboutian football. He is given credit for advancing football in the Horn of Africa nation in recent years. Although the country has never qualified for a big continental tournament they have made strides in the local league which drew headlines for the signing of past African stars like Alexandre Song to local giants AS Arta. The national team even managed to force a one all draw against Ethiopia in 2024 and secure a point in the ongoing 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying competition.
Waberi had been arrested on suspicion of embezzlement and money laundering in October this year, making his reelection a surprise.
