Kenya’s U17 women’s national team Junior Starlets’ captain Halima Imbachi has dedicated the team’s 3-0 return leg victory against Uganda in their 2025 FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup qualifier to Kenyans.
Kenya secured their place in the third round of the qualifiers following an emphatic 3-0 win against the Teen Cranes at Nyayo Stadium on Sunday. Having won the first leg meeting 2-0 in Kampala, the Junior Starlets thus qualified on a 5-0 aggregate result.
The Junior Starlets wasted no time asserting dominance, with Patience Asiko breaking the deadlock just five minutes into the match. The second half saw substitute Brenda Achieng make an instant impact, netting twice to complete a well-deserved 3-0 victory.
“It was a sweet win, and to make it even sweeter is the fact we achieved it at home, it was not easy to beat Uganda home and away, they were worthy opponents, they were difficult to break down, they were not easy to beat but because of our hard work, we achieved to beat them,” Imbachi told Pan-Africa Football.
“I want to thank all Kenyans for the support they accorded us, especially for both legs, home and away, we received so much support and I believe the best gift we can give our fans was the win against Uganda. It is a deserved win and will not stop from qualifying for the final.
“The deserved win pushes us to get ready against Cameroon, another tough side, but with proper preparations, we will be able to pass the hurdle.”
Following the win, the Junior Starlets marched into the third round, where they will come up against Cameroon in a decisive two-legged tie. The winner will book a ticket to the FIFA U17 Women’s World Cup set to be hosted in Morocco later this year.
