Eswatini senior women’s national football team coach Bongani Makhukhula has vowed to see Namibia fall in Friday’s Women Africa Cup of Nations qualifier.
Makhukhula said this during a pre-match press conference in Eswatini ahead of the first-round, first-leg match at Somhlolo National Stadium, which kicks off at 15:00hrs.
“We are ready to see the Namibians fall,” Makhukhula said.
He said Eswatini, also called Sitsebe SaMhlekazi, were motivated by the desire to avenge the loss suffered to the Brave Gladiators in the last edition of the COSAFA Women’s Championship.
“Yes, Namibia is ranked better than us; however, having played against them in the COSAFA Championship, it has presented us with a perfect opportunity to know the Namibians better,” Makhukhula said.
Taking her turn, Sitsebe SaMhlekazi’s skipper Nonhle Simelane echoed her coach’s remarks, saying: “We promised to do our best in winning the match.”
Namibian coach Woody Jacobs also declared the Brave Gladiators’ readiness for the match, saying their desire was a second-round qualification.
“We are aware that we are not playing against a team that you can win against easily. They can be stronger due to the home-ground advantage. Having played against Eswatini before and being victorious in the latest match does not guarantee a win as this match will be a different ball game,” Jacobs said.
The return leg is scheduled for February 26 at Dobsonville Stadium in Johannesburg, South Africa with the overall winner advancing to the second round.
