The Ethiopian women national side has been boosted by the arrival of star striker Loza Abera. The captain of the national side joins the squad from USL Super League outfit DC Power FC as Ethiopia gears up to face Uganda in their WAFCON qualifying first round doubleheader. Ethiopia last qualified for the WAFCON finals in 2012.
Abera is a key player for Lucy as she is the main goal getter for her country in recent times. Head coach Yoseph Gebreweld is delighted to welcome Abera to the squad. Before leaving Washington D.C. for Addis Ababa, Abera asked the public to support the national side during the qualifier. “I ask the general public and the fans of the Ethiopian national side to support us during the games.”
Abera will most likely partner Senaf Wakuma for the Uganda game. In the 2024/25 USL Super League season Abera played twelve times, failing to score a goal. Gebreweld will be hoping Abera is in good form ahead of the qualifier.
Over the weekend Ethiopia played two friendly games against lowly ranked Djibouti in Addis Ababa and won 17-0 on aggregate. The first game ended 10-0 as fans questioned if Djibouti are a worthy opponent before facing Uganda.
