Zimbabwe senior women’s football team captain Emmaculate Msipa insists there is still light at the of the tunnel despite the Mighty Warriors starting their Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifying race with a 2-1 loss to Angola on Thursday.

Msipa said this after Sithethelelwe Sibanda’s team lost in the first round, first leg match at Estadio 22 Juno in Luanda.

“I applaud my teammates. They gave everything and worked hard but I believe there is light at the end of the tunnel. We will do better. We will work on our weaknesses when we go to South Africa,” she said.

The hosts were the first to go ahead through Ary Papel before Zimbabwe equalized through winger Ruvimbo Mucherera from Ethel Chinyerere’s assist. Papel completed her double on the afternoon to seal the win.

It is now the turn of Zimbabwe to welcome the Angolans at Lucas Moripe Stadium, Pretoria in South Africa next Tuesday in the second leg. The winner between Zimbabwe and Angola will proceed to the final qualifying round to meet Malawi.

The Scorchers sailed through to the final round without kicking a ball after Congo withdrew from the qualifiers.
