Zimbabwe senior women’s football team coach Sithethelelwe Sibanda says the Mighty Warriors are bracing for a big battle against Angola in the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers on February 20, 2025.
Before departure for Angola, Sibanda said she was encouraged by the hunger and zeal the Mighty Warriors players have shown in training.
“The players are coming from the off-season. They are willing to go. They have rested during the off-season and when you come from the off-season, you are hungry for football and this is what we are seeing. I am sure this Angola game would be big for them,” she told Zimbabwe Football Association media.
She said the training focused on restoring fitness in initial stages before doing tactics and combinational play.
“There has been a lot of progress from the day we started. Physically and technically, we have been working on that. This week it was about tactical and technical stuff. The combinations are coming well. We now know who can play where and who can integrate well with who,” Sibanda explained.
The winner between Zimbabwe and Angola will proceed to the final qualifying round to meet Malawi. The Scorchers sailed through to the final round without kicking a ball after Congo withdrew.
