With their World Cup dreams hanging in the balance, the Uganda U17 girls’ national team, the Teen Cranes are gearing up for a monumental battle against Kenya in the second leg of the 2026 U17 Women’s World Cup Qualifiers on Sunday.
Set to unfold at Nyayo Stadium in Nairobi, Uganda faces the uphill task of overturning a 2-0 deficit from the first leg. The earlier encounter at Nakivubo Stadium saw Kenya’s Joan Ogola and Edna Nasipondwi strike twice in the first half, leaving the Teen Cranes with everything to play for.
Despite the daunting challenge, head coach Sheryl Botes remains unwavering in her belief that her squad can pull off a stunning turnaround. “The team has shown great spirit during our training sessions here in Kenya. The reception has been warm, and the girls are fully aware of what’s at stake. We’re ready to fight until the final whistle,” Botes remarked.
A victory for Uganda would not only erase the deficit but also secure a spot in the next qualifying round, where either Ethiopia or Cameroon awaits. The Teen Cranes’ resilience and tactical discipline will be crucial as they aim to defy the odds and keep their World Cup ambitions alive.
As the clock ticks toward kickoff, all eyes will be on Botes and her determined squad, hoping to script a remarkable comeback and keep their World Cup journey alive.
