Zambia verus Malawi: Football Association of Zambia.
Malawi senior women’s football team coach Lovemore Fazili hopes the Scorchers can avenge their loss to Zambia on Sunday when the rivals meet again on Tuesday in a friendly.
Poor defending of set-pieces saw Zambia score in the first half through Avell Chitundu at Reiz Arena in Lusaka before the match was called off in the 26th minute due to bad weather conditions.
The game continued on Sunday when set-pieces proved challenging again for Fazili’s girls as they conceded Rachel Kundananji’s freekick with 11 minutes remaining to full time.
Ahead of the second friendly, Fazili said he had worked on set-piece defending and finishing.
“The team is in good shape. Our main concern was defending set plays as we conceded both goals in the first match from dead-ball situations,” he told Malawi FA media.
“Our tactical approach will remain the same, but we have emphasized to our strikers the need to be more clinical if they manage to break through Zambia’s defence. We have addressed our weaknesses.”
Meanwhile, the kick-off for Tuesday’s game has been pushed backwards to 11:30 am at the same Lusaka venue due to predicted bad weather conditions in the afternoon.
The neighbours are preparing for the final qualifying round of the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations. Malawi will face the winner between Zimbabwe and Angola.
