Ivory Coast got their WAFU ZONE B U-17 girls cup tournament to a flying start on Saturday.
The tournament, which has seen some mixed results for nations in groups A and B, is ongoing at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Ghana. Ivory Coast coasted to a big win in group B on the evening, thrashing Niger by 5-0 to make a bold statement of their qualities.
A hat-trick by Adjuoa Rolande N’guessan in the 5th, 38th and the 82nd minute meant she joins the group of players who have scored three times in the competition. Zea Alimatou had her fare share of the cake by registering her name on the score sheet at the 20th minute mark before Awa Ambeu chalked a 36th minute strike.
The result leaves Niger with no point and are eliminated after they lost to Nigeria by 9-0 in their opening game on Thursday. Nigeria have three points following their heavy 9-0 win over Niger and will next face Ivory Coast in the second qualifiers.
Both countries have already qualified for the semi finals. In group A, Ghana and Bénin booked the semi final slot despite the Beninoise losing twice, 4-1 and 3-2 to Ghana. This is due to the withdrawal of Burkina Faso. The competition is running from December 12 until 26.
