Nigeria began their journey in the WAFU Zone-B U-17 Women's Cup on blistering note on Thursday evening.

The well oiled Flamingoes left no stone unturned when they hammered Niger by a 9-0 score at the Ghanaman Soccer Centre of Excellence in Prampram, Ghana, in a Group B fixture.

Nigeria skipper Shakirat Abidemi Moshood scored four goals, confirming her status as one of the players to grab a hat-trick after Ghana’s Christiana Ashieku.

There was another hat-trick hero on the day in Seimeyeha Janet Akekoromowei who netted on the 38th, 41st and the 43rd minutes.

The other two goals were scored by Aishat Ayobami Animashaun on the 5th minute with Peace Mary Effiong grabbing her goal on the 78th minute.

The heavy win meant that the Flamingoes scored seven goals in the first half with the other two in the second half.

Earlier in group A, Ghana’s Black Maidens defeated Bénin by 4-1 in the opening game at the same venue. The tournament is set to run from December 12 to 26.

Matches return on Saturday where Ghana will play Bénin once again in group A second game following Burkina’s withdrawal.
