The Ministry of Youth and Sports of Liberia has expressed strong concerns over the officiating in the recent FIFA World Cup qualifier between Liberia and Tunisia. The match, played on March 19, 2025, at the Samuel Kanyon Doe Sports Complex, ended in a 1-0 victory for Tunisia in the fifth round of the African qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup.

In an official statement, the Ministry revealed that through a video review of the match they observed that the referee denied the Liberian national team, known as Lone Star, two clear penalty opportunities.

The Ministry emphasized that these errors significantly impacted the outcome of the match and Liberia’s chances of qualification.

The Ministry has urged the Liberia Football Association (LFA) to file an official complaint with FIFA, calling for a thorough investigation into the referee’s decisions. Further more, the Ministry of Youth and Sports of Liberia has requested a replay of the match.

The Liberia national team occupies third place in the group standings with 7 points, trailing group leaders Tunisia (13 points) by six points and sitting four points behind second-placed Namibia (11 points).
