Former AS FAR Rabat coach Jamil Benouahi has explained why the Moroccan side were unsuccessful under current Kaizer Chiefs coach Nasreddine Nabi during the previous campaign.

After leaving Tanzanian Mainland Premier League champions Young Africans (Yanga SC), Nabi made a move to AS FAR for the 2023/24 campaign. However, he finished the season without a trophy as AS FAR missed out on the league title won by Raja Casablanca and the domestic Cup competition after losing the final to the same side.

“Look, when Nabi came to AS FAR, this team was very good and very mature. He came to the team that won the league a season before and qualified for the CAF Champions League,” Benouahi said as quoted by FARPost.

“That’s why I say, sometimes it’s a mentality thing because his team lost everything in the last few games of the previous season. If I have to say this, it means the team was not strong enough mentally, that’s what I saw when I was outside before working for the team. You cannot lose two competitions in two weeks.”

Nabi moved to Amakhosi for the current campaign and the team is already out of the race for the Betway Premiership as they sit eighth on the 16-team league table with 29 points from 23 matches.

However, Nabi could salvage the rather poor campaign with a trophy as they are in the semis of the Nedbank Cup where they will face Mamelodi Sundowns.
