A rescheduled fixture from Matchday 13 of the Tunisian Ligue 1 took place on Wednesday, featuring EGS Gafsa against Étoile du Sahel. The match ended in a 3-2 victory for Étoile du Sahel.
A highlight of the match was the use of the Video Assistant Referee (VAR) technology—an element that was not certain ahead of kickoff. The fixture was initially scheduled before VAR was introduced in the Tunisian league.
Typically, a rescheduled match must be played under the same conditions as the original, meaning VAR would not be used. However, since VAR is now active in the league, both clubs—EGS Gafsa and Étoile du Sahel—requested to have it implemented in the replay.
The Tunisian Football Federation (FTF), after coordination with FIFA, sent official communication to all Tunisian Ligue 1 clubs to inform them of the request and to collect their input.
The FTF emphasized that the final decision would be based on the majority’s opinion and that non-responses would be considered as approval. Only one club objected to the use of VAR, which allowed for its implementation in today’s match.
