Nigeria find themselves in a tight corner in the 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifiers but South Africa head coach, Hugo Broos believes the Super Eagles will rediscover their winning form when the qualifiers resumes next month.

The Super Eagles have made a poor start to their campaign, failing to win any of their first four qualifying matches. They drew against Lesotho, Zimbabwe, and South Africa before suffering a shock 2-1 defeat to Benin Republic.

That unimpressive run of form in the games has left Nigeria with just three points — four behind joint group leaders South Africa, Rwanda, and Benin.

With only the top team securing automatic qualification, Nigeria sit second from bottom in the six-team group and are now faced with must win situations to increase their chances of qualifying for the mundial in Canada, Mexico and the USA.

Despite Nigeria’s struggles, Broos believes the Super Eagles will come good. “I am surprised that Nigeria are four points behind us because they have too much quality,” Broos said. “I believe they will come back by the next window (March).

“All the teams in our group are still in the running (to qualify for the World Cup).”

Nigeria need wins against Rwanda and Zimbabwe next month, while hoping South Africa slip up in their own matches. Bafana Bafana will face Lesotho on March 17 at the Peter Mokaba Stadium in Polokwane before taking on Benin Republic at the same venue.
