Moroccan giants Wydad AC have officially announced the signing of French midfielder Mickaël Malsa on a free transfer.
The 29-year-old operates as a central midfielder and has played in several European clubs such as Real Valladolid and Levante in Spain, Kasımpaşa in Turkey and Sochaux in France. His most recent stint was with Real Valladolid, who released him in February 2024. Malsa spent the last year without a club until joining Wydad.
A former member of the Martinique national team, Malsa becomes Wydad’s third signing of the winter transfer window following the arrivals of right-back Fahd Moufi from Croatia's HNK Hajduk Split and goalkeeper Mehdi Benabid from fellow Moroccan Botola Pro side AS FAR Rabat.
Wydad AC is not participating in African competitions this season after finishing sixth in the Botola Pro last year. However, the club has a place in the expanded 2025 FIFA Club World Cup which will take place in the United States next summer.
Wydad has been drawn into a challenging group featuring Manchester City (England), Juventus (Italy), and Al Ain (UAE) in the tournament. The 2021-22 CAF Champions League winners currently sit in 4th place on the Botola Pro table in Morocco's top flight, ten points back of leaders RS Berkane.
