Ghana striker Samuel Obeng is nurturing the ambition of playing at this season’s FIFA Club World Cup.
After signing for Moroccan giants Wydad Athletic Club, the former Ghana U-23 forward will have fine opportunity to feature in the upcoming competition in June.
Speaking in his first interview after his unveiling on Thursday, Samuel Obeng pledged to do his best for his new club. "I chose Wydad because of their ambitious project and also the confidence the coach and the club transmit to me. I feel, everything surprise me and that's good. I’m excited."
"Personally, I will give my best and collectively finish in a good position. In June, we will give our best in the World Cup for the fans and the club,” Samuel Obeng said.
The Spain-born forward has signed for Wydad Athletic Club from Portuguese second tier side, Casa Pia. The 27-year-old, who has spent most of his career in Spain, will be playing for an African club for the first time.
Samuel Obeng is expected to play a pivotal role at the club coached by South African trainer Rulani Mokoena.
He is familiar with playing in North Africa after making Ghana's squad for the CAF U23 Cup of Nations in 2019 in Egypt. The forward has had stints in Spain with Getafe, Girona, Real Oviedo, Granollers and Calahorra.
