Young Africans (Yanga SC) have confirmed the return of midfield maestro Khalid Aucho as they prepare to face TP Mazembe in a crucial Caf Champions League fixture in Lubumbashi, DR Congo, on Saturday.
The Ugandan captain was among the key players, who missed the Timu ya Mwanachi’s trip to face MC Alger in Algeria during their Group A matchday two battle. During the fixture, the Tanzania Premier League champions suffered a 2-0 defeat to dent their qualification hopes.
Speaking ahead of Mazembe showdown, Yanga team manager Walter Harrison confirmed Khalid Aucho, Clement Mzize, and Salum Abubakar have resumed full training and could be involved but ruled out Chadrack Boka, who is still recovering from injury.
“I'm happy to share that we have almost our full squad ready for the TP Mazembe match. Key players like Aucho, Abubakar, and Mzize have returned to training and will be involved in the game. This is excellent news for us as we regain crucial players for this important fixture,” Harrison said as quoted by the Guardian.
“We'll be departing for Lubumbashi on Thursday. The team will continue rigorous training that day to prepare for the match and fine-tune our tactics. We know our fans will also be traveling by bus, and we wish them a safe journey. We're determined to return home with a positive result.”
After the game against Algers, Yanga coach Sead Ramovic admitted to have missed the services of the aforementioned players: “If you play without four starters who are key players, it’s not easy. These injuries undoubtedly affected our performance.”
He added: “We have 25 good players, but we need to improve our compactness and defensive organization. The first offensive action is to defend well because defending well sets the stage for better attacks.”
