Kaizer Chiefs captain Yusuf Maart has sent a warning to rivals Mamelodi Sundowns that they will not find it easy when the two sides face off in the second round fixture of the Betway Premiership at the Lucas Masterpieces Moripe Stadium in Atteridgeville, West of Pretoria on Saturday.
The two South Africans giants met in the corresponding first round fixture earlier in the season at FNB Stadium which the Brazilians won 2-1. However, according to the 29-year-old Maart, Amakhosi believes it is possible to beat the reigning champions and they will carry the same mentality heading into the clash.
“It's possible to beat Sundowns. We are also a big team, so we must take that mentality into the game on Saturday. We create a lot of chances and that shows that we're not playing badly, so we are really confident that we can get something on Saturday,'' the Chiefs skipper said as quoted by Sowetan.
“In football there are no favours at all. We are playing for our own objectives as we are running our own race. We need points for ourselves at the end of the day, so we can't be thinking about other teams.”
On prepared Chiefs are for the fixture, Maart explained: “This is a good team-building exercise...we are bonding as brothers and enjoying driving these fast cars. It was a good decision from management to take us out to get our minds off things ahead of a very big game against Sundowns.”
However, Chiefs will be without Gaston Sirino in this match after he picked up a red card in Amakhosi’s last match, against SuperSport United.
While Sundowns are currently leading the 16-team table with 48 points from 18 matches, Amakhosi are in seventh position with 25 points from the same number of matches.
