Swiss manager Christian Gross, head coach of Zamalek, described today’s CAF Confederation Cup match against fellow Egyptian club Al Masry as a challenging encounter where physical strength played a decisive role in shaping the game. The Group D clash ended in a 0-0 draw in Alexandria.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Gross stated:
“We should have worked harder in the first half. Al Masry took risks in the second half to score which created spaces, and we had a golden opportunity through Abdallah El-Said that could have decided the game. In my opinion, the draw is a fair result for both teams.”
When asked about the absence of Tunisian player Hamza Mathlouthi, Gross explained:
“I have a large squad to choose from. Today we managed to keep a clean sheet which is positive defensively. However, we need to improve offensively. Mathlouthi is an important player for the team and will have his chance with Zamalek.”
Regarding the non-participation of Mohamed Atef and the inclusion of younger players, Gross added:
“I focus on the team during training. Any player who proves himself in practice will get his chance. Everyone must stay focused to demonstrate their capabilities.”
On the occasion of the club’s founding anniversary, Gross commented:
“It is a significant day for all Zamalek fans. I spoke with the players before the match to motivate them to win but unfortunately, that did not happen. However, we remain at the top of the group.”
When asked about transfer discussions, Gross stated:
“I do not wish to discuss transfers during this press conference. I respect all our opponents. After Enyimba’s win over Black Bulls today, my goal remains maintaining the top spot in the group.”
Gross concluded:
“I want to defend this title and am doing my best to win every match. This is my first phase in Egypt, and I am still learning more about all our competitors.”
