In an unexpected turn of events, Zamalek head coach José Gomes has reportedly decided to step down from his position and leave the club in the coming days.

According to Egyptian journalist Amr Gaballah, speaking on the Egyptian TV show "El Kora Maa Fayeq", Gomes informed Zamalek president Hussein Labib of his decision to resign. Gaballah stated that Gomes expressed his desire to part ways amicably and has reportedly planned for Wednesday’s training session to be his last with the team.

Gaballah also revealed that Gomes’ decision comes after receiving an enticing offer from another club and that the Zamalek board, led by Hussein Labib, is actively trying to persuade the Portuguese coach to reconsider his choice.

This announcement comes unexpectedly given the team's achievements under Gomes' leadership.

The Portuguese coach has guided Zamalek to significant achievements including winning the CAF Confederation Cup and the CAF Super Cup. The team currently sits atop their group in this season's Confederation Cup and occupies second place in the Egyptian Premier League with nine points from four games courtesy of three wins and one loss.

As of now, Zamalek has not issued an official statement regarding these reports.
