Zamalek head coach Jose Peseiro stated that his team played a strong attacking first half against Smouha in today's Egypt Cup match, creating spaces and numerous chances. He described it as the best half for his team.
Zamalek secured a spot in the Egypt Cup semi-finals after defeating Smouha 4-2 and will now face Ceramica Cleopatra.
Speaking at the post-match press conference, Peseiro said: "It is not logical that our opponent had four chances on Zamalek’s goal and managed to score twice from set-pieces. I am not happy that we conceded two goals today."
He continued: "The second half was different. We scored three goals, and the opponent did not score. Zamalek deserved to win the match."
Peseiro added: "Smouha had two chances in the second half, and we will work on fixing our mistakes and improving defensively. I congratulate the players on today’s victory."
The coach went on to say: "When I choose a specific starting lineup, I have confidence in all the players participating. The substitutes are also at a good level."
Peseiro explained: "The team plays in multiple ways. Our primary approach is the 3-4-3 formation, but we later changed it. We played well in the first half using 3-4-3, but our issue was with set-pieces."
He added: "Zamalek played well in the first half. The only thing I did not like was the set-pieces, which the opponent used to score. The match was open, and Zamalek was the better and more positive team."
Peseiro concluded: "Hossam Ashraf needs to work harder in training. He came on as a substitute against ENPPI and Modern Sport. We have Seifeddine Jaziri and Nasser Mansi, along with Hossam Ashraf. One striker plays while the other sits on the bench. It is up to the player to take advantage of his opportunity when he plays."
