Egyptian club Zamalek has sent a registered letter with acknowledgment of receipt to star player Ahmed Sayed “Zizo,” notifying him of his absence from club training and matches since April 10, and informing him of the disciplinary sanctions imposed due to this absence.

This marks the first official move from Zamalek regarding its position on Zizo after leaving their star player out of the squad for Zamalek's CAF Confederation Cup quarterfinal defeat to South African club Stellenbosch FC.

The player was also informed, through a registered letter, of the date of his summons for an internal investigation scheduled to take place next Saturday at the club’s headquarters.

In the same context, Zamalek sent an official letter to the Egyptian Football Association, informing them of the player's absence from training and matches despite being under contract with the club until the end of the current season.

Zamalek emphasized that the player’s absence is a violation of the terms of his contract, in addition to breaching the applicable internal and external regulations and rules.

This crisis emerged after Zamalek learned that team star Ahmed Mostafa Zizo had signed certain documents in preparation for a move to traditional rivals Al Ahly next season, following the expiry of his contract with Zamalek at the end of the current campaign.

As a result, the player was excluded from the second leg of the CAF Confederation Cup quarter-final against South Africa’s Stellenbosch, which Zamalek lost 1-0 at home resulting in their exit from the competition.

Since that day, Zizo has not attended any training sessions with the club and the relationship between the player and Zamalek has reached a dead end. It is now certain that the club legend will no longer play for Zamalek.

Zizo's titles with Zamalek

Since joining Zamalek in the 2018–2019 season, Zizo has won eight titles with the club:

  • CAF Confederation Cup: 2 titles

  • CAF Super Cup: 2 titles

  • Egyptian Premier League: 2 titles

  • Egypt Cup: 1 title

  • Egyptian Super Cup: 1 title

Zizo’s goalscoring record

Zizo is the sixth all-time top scorer in Zamalek’s history, with 87 goals scored for the club. The all-time top scorer of Zamalek is Abdel Halim Ali who scored 134 goals for the club.
