Abdelwahid El-Sayed, Director of Football at Egyptian club Zamalek, has decided to suspend midfielder Nasser Maher and refer him to the club’s legal affairs department for investigation.

He also submitted a recommendation to the board of directors to deduct 25% of the player’s dues due to his actions prior to the match against Haras El Hodoud in the Nile Egyptian League.

According to Zamalek's media centre, Nasser Maher had refused to sit on the bench during the Haras El Hodoud match in the second round of the Nile League title phase, protesting his exclusion from the starting lineup.

As a result, the technical staff led by Portuguese coach José Peseiro excluded the player from the squad for the match.

Zamalek defeated Haras El Hodoud 2-0 in the game and currently sit third in the league table with 38 points, two points behind Al Ahly, pending the final decision regarding a three-point deduction from Al Ahly for failing to attend the first-round match against Zamalek because of assigning an Egyptian referee to officiate the game.

Nasser Maher has made 16 appearances for Zamalek this season, scoring two goals and providing two assists. He also won the CAF Super Cup title this season.
