The Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) has shown its class by decorating Malawi women’s football stars Temwa and her elder sister Tabitha Chawinga on Sunday evening.
The Chawinga sisters are popular among the Zambian football fraternity largely because the two countries share a lot in common, including borders and many languages.
However, few would have expected the gesture of FAZ through its president Andrew Kamanga, who handed over certificates of recognition to Olympique Lyonnais Féminin star Tabitha and sister Temwa of the Kansas City Current during the annual FAZ football awards ceremony at Taj Pamodzi Hotel in Lusaka.
Tabitha has since saluted FAZ for the gesture saying: “It’s a motivation to us and this is a fuel to my game. When I was coming, I didn’t know that I would be awarded. This award is for all Malawian female football players.”
Football Association of Malawi President Fleetwood Haiya echoed the Scorchers captain’s remarks: “Let me thank Andrew Kamanga for the awards. This shows we are all pulling toward football transformation mostly for the women’s game. Congratulations to Tabitha and Temwa because they deserve this.”
Malawi will face Zambia on Tuesday in a second strength-testing match after hosts Zambia won the first friendly 2-0 on Sunday.
