Football Association of Zambia (FAZ) incumbent president Andrew Kamanga will retain his seat unopposed after all other contestants failed to pass the eligibility test.
FAZ electoral committee chairperson Ronald Hatoongo unveiled candidates for the March 29 2025 elections on Monday in Lusaka.
He ruled out the association’s former general secretary Adrian Kashala from the presidential race alongside Keith Mweemba, Emmanuel Munaile, Godfrey Chikumbi, Mumbo Lombe, Alex Njobvu, Francis Hamfwiti and Machacha Shepande.
The unsuccessful candidates have a five-day window from February 22 2025 to appeal the decision. Africa football icon Kalusha Bwalya withdrew from the presidential election race last month.
Kamanga will now extend his tenure to four more years making it three terms since 2916 when he ousted Bwalya.
Eligibility criteria were based on Article 33 of the FAZ Constitution which, among others, required candidates to pass an integrity test, and nominators for candidates to be registered in the FAZ Connect system for the 2024/2025 season.
Additionally, the nominators needed to hold the position of either President/Chairman or General Secretary/ Chief Executive Officer (CEO) in FAZ structures. The nominators were checked if they nominated only one prospective candidate for a position.
Candidates were required to have five years’ experience in the leadership position of a FAZ member.
