ZiFA Executive Committee receives plaudits for promising to settle Mighty Warriors training allowance

The newly elected Executive Committee of the Zimbabwe Football Association, ZIFA, has received massive commendation from experienced Women’s coach Evans Netha.

The newly elected Executive Committee members led by businessman, Ngobile Magwizi has promised to pay the training allowances of the senior female national team ahead of their 2026 Women AFCON qualifiers against rivals, Angola.

Netha said: “It’s a good start for me that they have made this gesture. They are recognizing women football, which is very important.

“Such things help in terms of how the team performs and inspire others to fight to be in the national team,” Netha said. “The new executive is saying what we have always called for, that there should be no difference in how the men’s and women’s team are treated.”

The Mighty Warriors will officially regrouped for their preparations for the 2026 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifiers, with a 29-member squad reporting to camp this Sunday.

The Mighty Warriors are set to face regional rivals Angola on the 20th February in Luanda, before meeting them again a week later at the Lucas Moripe Stadium in South Africa.

Ahead of these crucial encounters, coach Sithethelelwe Sibanda expressed her satisfaction with the players’ readiness and enthusiasm. “We are excited to start our preparations for the AFCON qualifiers, and we are confident that with the talent and dedication of our players, we can achieve great things,” Sibanda said in a statement released by ZIFA.

The team’s first target is to overcome Angola and advance to the second round, where they will face the winner of the tie between Malawi and Congo. The ultimate goal remains securing one of the 12 spots available for the final tournament, which is set to take place in Morocco.
