Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) president Nqobile SaNkosi Magwizi has saluted his country’s national football team for their battling displays in a two-all 2026 FIFA World Cup qualifying draw with Benin on Thursday.

The newly elected ZIFA boss acknowledged the fighting spirit of the men in gold who fought back twice against the West Africans at Moses Mabhida Stadium in South Africa and live to fight another day in this Group C race.

Reflecting on the match, SaNkosi, on his Facebook page, highlighted the Warriors fighting spirit in the face of adversity.

“A big thank you to our Warriors for their remarkable performance in the 2-2 draw against Benin. Coming back from 2 goals down shows the resilience, determination, and fighting spirit that defines our team. You demonstrated true character on the field, and we are incredibly proud of your effort,” he wrote.

Michael Nees’ side was staring defeat in the face after Steve Mounie and Dodo Dokou had scored for the visitors in the 12th and 36th minutes only for Wolverhampton Wolves’ new signing Marshall Munetsi to reduce the deficit with a minute to the break.

The comeback was complete as recalled forward Knowledge Musona scored again for Zimbabwe, who switch attention to an even tougher challenge in Nigeria on March 24.

The Warriors sit at the bottom of the group with three points from five games, five points behind Benin who jumped from third place to the top as of Thursday displacing Rwanda and South Africa.
