Zimbabwe FA courts SAFA on a benchmarking tour

Seeking to bounce back strongly on the international scene, the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) delegation is in South Africa on a benchmarking tour.

ZIFA president Nqobile Magwizi has led the delegation comprising Executive Committee members Alice Zeure, Kudzai Kadzombe, and Chief Executive Officer Yvonne Manwa.

A statement from ZIFA says the delegation is on a two-day visit to the South African Football Association (SAFA) to share best practices and strategic insights across several key areas of the game, including Governance, Human Resources, Information Technology, Competitions, and Commercialisation.

“This engagement forms part of ZIFA’s broader efforts to strengthen institutional capacity and enhance the development of football in Zimbabwe through collaboration with regional and continental peers. ZIFA is committed to continuous learning and partnership-building as we work towards a more professional, efficient, and commercially viable football ecosystem,” ZIFA’s statement reads.

The delegation has since met SAFA president Danny Jordaan, a stalwart in South African football circles.

Magwizi is trying to revamp Zimbabwe football on the international stage following his election on 25th January 2025. He has promised to drive ‘financial stability through innovative revenue streams and commercialization, investing in modern infrastructure to support players and communities alike.’

Magwizi took over from a FIFA-sanctioned normalisation committee which was at the helm since 2022 when the world governing body banned the country’s FA over government interference in football matters.
