Zimbabwe senior women’s soccer team supporters are reportedly struggling in South Africa where they cheered the Mighty Wanderers during the Women’s Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) qualifying match against Angola on Wednesday.

The predicament of the fans has caught the attention of the Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) which has since set the record straight that it was not responsible for the travel arrangements.

“The Zimbabwe Football Association (ZIFA) is deeply concerned about the well-being of Zimbabwean fans currently in Pretoria and acknowledges reports circulating on social media regarding their situation. While we empathise with their plight and appreciate their unwavering support for the Mighty Warriors, we must also address the misinformation,” the statement reads.

“ZIFA wishes to categorically state that it was never responsible for the travel arrangements or logistics for these supporters.”

Zimbabwe Castle Lager Premier League champions Simba Bhora volunteered to transport the Mighty Warriors supporters to watch the first-round, second-leg match at Lucas Moripe Stadium in Pretoria.

Zimbabwe beat Angola 2-1 on Wednesday for the two teams to settle at 3-3 on aggregate over two legs before Angola won the tie on post-match penalties. The Angolans now date Malawi in the final qualifying round.
