Highlanders FC coach Frank Kaindu rued his team’s one-all draw with rookies Scottland FC in a Castle Lager Premier Soccer League match at Barbourfields Stadium in Bulawayo on Sunday afternoon.
Speaking to Zimbabwe Broadcasting TV, Kaindu admitted that his side failed to manage the game after having snatched a late lead through Nqobile Ndlovu’s header off a freekick from Andrew Mbewe in the 82nd minute.
However, Tonderai Ndiraya’s Scottland responded two minutes into added time through Mthokosizi Msembe’s header, much to Kaindu’s frustration.
“I am a bit disappointed. Maybe our tactics didn’t work to our advantage. We tried to close the game in the last few minutes. It is just unfortunate that we sat back. This was just the last kick; a free header at the back post... I think with a bit of luck we could have gone with maximum points,” he said.
Ndiraya hailed his charges for showing character to come back just when most fans felt Highlanders had won the game.
“We showed some good character to come back but overall, it was a good competition. This is a new team and this is our fifth game. To come here at Barbourfields and get a point is an achievement…what more can you ask for?” he said.
Scottish are in fourth place with only three points behind the leaders Ngezi while Highlanders are in fifth position.
In other games, Dynamos edged Simba Bhora 1-0 at Rufaro Stadium in Harare on Sunday, handing the defending champions their first defeat of the season.
Nyahwa scored the only goal of the game for Dynamos in the 55th minute, leaving his team in sixth place, four points behind leader, Ngezi FC. Joel Luphahla’s side sit in a distant 12 position.
Another match for former champions FC Platinum against MWOS ended in a goalless draw with Norman Mapeza’s side placed seventh, two points behind the second-ranked opponents.
