An agent for highly rated Zimbabwean coach Norman Mapeza has reacted to reports linking his client to the vacant Mighty Mukuru Wanderers coaching job in Malawi.
Social media reports in Malawi have linked the FC Platinum coach with Wanderers who are without a substantive handler following Meck Mwase’s resignation last month. The former Flames coach Mwase dumped the Blantyre-based club following a cup game loss to Silver Strikers.
When contacted in Zimbabwe, the agent Gibson Mahachi insisted that the Nomads, as Wanderers are affectionately called, have not approached the former Warriors coach. “We haven't got any official communication from anybody in Malawi. I hear these stories. So, for now, it is just speculation,” he said.
Mahachi said he would listen to any approach for the former Chippa United mentor and decide its merit. “We treat any approach seriously because this is football. You listen to any offer then a decision can be made. You don't ignore any approach. You attend to them and hear the merit,” he said.
The interest in Mapeza should be surprising as Mahachi’s other client, Kalisto Pasuwa has established himself as a cult hero at Wanderers’ rivals, FCB Nyasa Big Bullets, leading them to five consecutive league titles from 2018 to 2023.
The Nomads are desperate to catch up with Bullets and Silver who continue to dominate with 16 and nine league titles against seven for Wanderers.
