Hakim Ziyech hopes his recent move to Qatari club football will help him earn a return to the Morocco national team roster. The winger has been overlooked by Atlas Lions coach Walid Regragui in recent months.
Ziyech joined Qatari side Al Duhail after leaving Galatasaray on bitter terms. He said his move to the Gulf was about getting playing time. "I signed here to have playing time. I wish to get back in shape so that I can return to the national team and play in the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON)."
The 31-year-old former Ajax and Chelsea star was instrumental in Morocco's success at the 2022 FIFA World Cup. Coach Regragui back in November 2024 said Ziyech needs to have more minutes to get a call up: "There is no controversy, everything is clear. He has to work and play more."
Ziyech last played for Morocco in a 2025 AFCON qualifying win over Lesotho in September. His recent departure away from Galatasaray came after seeing his playing time dwindle during the 2024-25 season.
