A pair of clean sheets led Tanzania’s top sides top three sides to the full three points over the weekend as Simba, Young Africans and Azam all did enough to secure 1-0 wins. Young Africans utilized a second-half header from Burkinabé striker Yacouba Songne to prevail over fourth-placed Biashara Mara United and remain in top spot for now, maintaining a two-point lead over Simba with three more games played. A patient buildup from Yanga led to Songne’s goal with a cross sailing over the outstretched hand of the Biashara goalkeeper and to Songne for an easy header into the open net.
In a similar fashion, Simba found their winner in the second-half from a header as well. Tanzania national team forward John Bocco was on hand at the far post to nod in an easy finish, assisted by another header from Kenyan defender Joash Onyango following a corner-kick. Simba remain in good shape despite still trailing rivals Yanga at the top but will need to remain steady with plenty of fixtures approaching.
