It seemed inevitable that defending Tanzanian champions Simba would make up the necessary ground to take back top spot in the Ligi Kuu Bara, but with results going their way this past weekend they are now in the lead ahead of schedule. A fantastic dipping shot from far out by Mohamed Husseini in the 28th minute was all Wekundu wa Msimbazi needed, an effort that sent the large travelling support into pandemonium at Gwambina. Simba have now won four in a row and have not lost a league game since October.
The three points for Simba moves them a point above rivals Young Africans SC with still three games to make up. Yanga fell 0-1 at home to a strong Azam side that has enjoyed excellent form since the return of star Zimbabwean striker Prince Dube. Dube came up with a thunderous strike from distance to score his twelfth goal of the season in the 86th minute. Azam are now three points behind Yanga with a clear group of three teams separating itself from the rest of the pack.
