Defending Sudan Premier League champions Al-Hilal Omdurman got their 2022-23 season off to a positive start with a 4-0 midweek victory over Wad Nubawi on Wednesday. Winners of the last two seasons in Sudan’s top division, Al-Hilal will look to follow up their successful league opener by advancing past Tanzanian champions Young Africans SC in the final preliminary stage of the 2022-23 CAF Champions League. The Blue Wave earned an excellent result in Dar es Salaam last weekend, drawing 1-1 to put them in control before the second leg at home.
Yaser Mozamil got the hosts off to an excellent start by finishing off a goal mouth scramble with a calm finish before Walid Al-Shoala doubled the lead soon after for Florent Ibengé’s side. The Congolese manager brought in countryman Makabi Lilepo as one of his pre-season signings and the DRC national team player was on hand to score Hilal’s third goal when a low cross from Athar El Tahir snuck through to the far post for the former AS Vita Club player to finish with ease. Gambia under-23 national team attacker Lamine Jarju finished off the scoring for Hilal by firing in after receiving a cross from Mwafag Siddig.
