Mamelodi Sundowns returned to league action in South Africa’s DStv Premiership and Masandawana delivered an excellent 3-0 road victory against relegation candidates TS Galaxy on Wednesday. All three goals were quality as Khuliso Mudau’s 19th minute opener was followed by a stellar second half strike from Haashim Domingo before league leading scorer Peter Shalulile provided a poacher’s effort to complete a convincing victory. Galaxy were disadvantaged when Lindokuhle Mbatha received two yellow cards in the opening 22 minutes to doom the hosts to an inevitable defeat.
AmaZulu and Stellenbosch FC met in a battle for a top-5 spot and following a 2-2 draw, nothing changed Stellenbosch remain in fifth while AmaZulu stays in sixth place. Stellenbosch’s Ashley Du Preez and AmaZulu’s Matarr Ceesay traded goals in the opening 35 minutes as nothing separated the teams at halftime. In the second half, Stellenbosch’s new addition to their South American contingent, Venezuelan Juan Ortiz, scored on his debut to put the visitors up in the 60th minute but parity was restored for Usuthu by Thembela Sikhakhane in the 77th minute.
Orlando Pirates dominated Cape Town City in their return from CAF Confederation Cup action but the season long theme continued of the Bucs struggling to make a breakthrough as the match ended in a disappointing 0-0 draw. Pirates moved up to fourth place with the result but the top-3 looks far off as Royal AM and Kaizer Chiefs have played less matches and Sundowns are far and gone from the remainder of the competition.
Highlights are below from all three of Wednesday’s games.
TS Galaxy 0-3 Mamelodi Sundowns
AmaZulu 2-2 Stellenbosch
Orlando Pirates 0-0 Cape Town City
