SuperSport United no match for rampant Cape Town City

One of the DStv Premiership’s best attacks finally came back to life with Cape Town City FC’s efficient 3-0 victory over SuperSport United on Saturday. Following a slow start to the match, the Citizens started to take control and earned a penalty kick in the 32nd minute due to a late Thatayone Ditlhokwe challenge in the SuperSport penalty box. Fagrie Lakay calmly slotted his spot-kick home for his sixth league goal of the season.

SuperSport came out more determined to attack and looked more than capable of getting back into the game. It wasn’t meant to be for the visitors as Cape Town City doubled their lead to further SuperSport’s frustrations. Veteran midfielder Mpho Makola worked an excellent one-two with Kudakwashe Mahachi before finishing with style in the 64th minute. Tashreeq Morris completed SuperSport’s misery with an 85th minute close range finish following a poorly defending corner-kick.

Tshakhuma Tsha Madzivhandila climbed out of the relegation zone with an important victory against TS Galaxy in the day’s later game. Galaxy controlled large portions of the match but were incompetent in the final third, allowing TTM to hang around and take their chances. Brandon Theron opened the scoring in the 42nd minute for TTM when the visitors took a throw-in quickly to put former South Africa national team player Tokelo Rantie behind a scrambling Galaxy defense. Theron received a cross from Rantie and just got his finish in before being swallowed up by the defense.

Substitute Thabo Rakhale sealed the victory late on for TTM with his first involvement in the 82nd minute, clinching a precious three points. Highlights and match reports for both games are below.
