A nasty challenge from Mohamed Abdel Ghani resulted in his second yellow card early in the second-half of Zamalek’s league match against El-Entag El-Harby on Thursday, but a two-goal cushion was enough for the current league leaders to hold on for a 2-0 win. Moroccan winger Achraf Bencharki opened the scoring with a 22nd minute penalty-kick and then countryman Hamid Ahadad made excellent use of a rare start to score his first Egyptian Premier League goal before halftime.
The hosts failed to make use of their numerical advantage following Abdel Ghani’s expulsion and remain in last place on 12 points following the loss. Zamalek have increased hope of holding onto their league lead, still having played three more matches than second-placed Al Ahly but now ahead by six points thanks to Ahly’s first loss of the season Wednesday.
