Ten-man Zamalek through to Egypt Cup quarters with narrow win over Ismaily

Despite having manager Patrice Carteron ejected and leading scorer Ashraf Bencharki sent off by halftime due to receiving two yellow cards, Zamalek prevailed by a 1-0 score to advance to the quarterfinals of the Egypt Cup on Thursday. The drama is never in short supply when it comes to Zamalek’s recent games but the White Knights continue to find ways to grind out wins. Bencharki came through with the game winning goal shortly before his sending off by running on to a well weighted through ball from club legend Shikabala and calmly finishing in the 41st minute.

Bencharki obtained his second yellow card in first half stoppage time and coach Carteron was subsequently sent off for protesting the Moroccan’s ejection. KingFut describes the match as full of opportunities for both sides but Ismaily could not find the breakthrough despite being a player up for the entire second half. The match report is in the link below with video of Bencharki’s winner further down.
