Ten of the fourteen clubs in Tunisia’s Ligue 1 Professionnelle began their 2023-24 league campaigns over the weekend and it was a positive start for a couple of the nation’s top clubs. Espérance ST, who had their streak of six consecutive titles ended by rivals Étoile du Sahel last season, found a goal from Oussama Bougherra in their 1-0 victory over newly promoted club AS Marsa. Bougherra got on the end of a cross from new signing Houssam Ghacha to head in the only goal of the match soon before halftime.
Along with Ghacha, another arrival from abroad contributed to give Club Africain victory in their opening match. Bassem Srarfi returned to the club after spells in France, Belgium and Kuwait and made an instant impact by scoring the only goal in a 1-0 victory for CA at US Ben Guerdane. The finish from the 26-year-old just snuck over the goal line after he ran onto a pass that split the USBG defense.
Highlights of the victories for EST and CA are below as well as video from CS Sfaxien’s 2-0 home victory over CA Bizertin.
