Hosts Libya kicked off a three-nation tournament on Wednesday with their friendly matchup against Uganda that ended with a 0-0 draw between the two teams at the Benina Martyrs Stadium in Benghazi. Libya managed to control possession throughout but the Uganda side featuring under-23 players created a couple of dangerous opportunities of their own after managing to avoid conceding a goal in the opening stretch.
It was more of the same in the second half with Libya continuing to look the more threatening side while the Cranes managed to carve out a couple of dangerous looks. New York Red Bulls midfielder Steven Sserwadda came close when he connected with a header from a Gavin Kizito cross but sent his effort over the bar. Uganda will face neighbors Tanzania, the third team in the competition, on Saturday while Libya play their second match against Tanzania next Tuesday.
