Midweek action in the 2022-23 Uganda Premier League saw three matches take place and last season’s Uganda Cup winners BUL FC continue to establish themselves as club who continues to rise to prominence. The Jinja-based side secured their status at the top of the table following Wednesday’s 1-0 home victory over Onduparaka FC, giving BUL fourteen points from six matches so far this campaign. The visitors from the Northern Region had their opportunities in a close encounter but Karim Ndugwa nodded in the winner from an 81st minute free kick to give the hosts three points.
On Tuesday the struggles continued for Busoga United, who have now lost four straight after an opening day victory following their 1-0 home defeat to Gadaffi FC. Steven Munguchi’s excellent dribbling run from the midfield resulted in the Gadaffi player sending a low shot past Busoga goalkeeper Michael Lutaya for the game’s only goal in the 69th minute.
URA SC are another club who have struggled since the departures of forwards Steven Mukwala and Rwothomio Cromwell to Ghana’s Asante Kotoko and Vipers SC respectively. The Tax Collectors fell 2-1 to Wakiso Giants in Tuesday’s other match with Norman Ogik opening the scoring for the Purple Sharks just before halftime. James Begisa leveled for the visitors in the 58th minute when Samson Kiriya could only palm the right back’s cross into his own net but Moses Aliro turned in a cross for the winner in the 65th minute. URA will feel hard done by as it appeared Aliro was clearly offside when the cross was played.
