Showing signs of a letdown as the end of the campaign approaches, top two Uganda Premier League sides SC Villa and KCCA FC needed to make a statement to supporters in their clash on Sunday and it was the Kasasiro Boys of KCCA who emerged on top. Simon Kankonde and Saidi Mayanja put the hosts ahead 2-0 by halftime and after Charles Bbaale provided a response for Villa early in the second half, Rogers Mato and Julius Poloto responded to put a victory beyond doubt for KCCA. Villa remain two points ahead of Sunday’s opponents but have played two more matches making their lead tenuous at best.
Vipers experienced a revival of hope over the past two weeks with victories over two teams in the Premier League’s bottom half. However the Venoms could not overcome a stronger opponent in the form of Uganda Revenue Authority SC, who held their hosts to a 1-1 draw at the St. Mary’s Stadium in Kitende on Saturday. URA should have escaped the home of Vipers with a victory but goalkeeper Nafian Alionzi spilled a cross to allow Karim Ndugwa’s equalizer following the opener from URA’s Paul Mbowa. Vipers are now seven points back of leaders SC Villa with URA two points behind the Venoms.
Elsewhere there were victories for Wakiso Giants and Arua Hill SC while Busoga United and BUL FC played to a 1-1 draw in a derby match between the two Jinja-based clubs. Watch highlights from their draw, the top of the table clash between KCCA and Villa and the Vipers-URA match below.
